What Is General Dentistry?

The foundation of a healthy, functional smile.

General dentistry focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions affecting the teeth, gums, bite, and surrounding oral tissues.

It includes routine examinations and professional cleanings as well as treatment for tooth decay, damaged teeth, gum inflammation, infections, grinding, sensitivity, and other common dental concerns.

At Country Club Dentistry, every recommendation begins with your current oral health, symptoms, dental history, risk factors, comfort, and long-term goals.

02
Preventive Dental Care

Protecting healthy teeth is easier than rebuilding them.

Preventive visits allow our team to monitor changes, remove deposits that cannot be fully addressed at home, and respond to concerns while treatment may still be more conservative.

01
Clinical evaluation

Comprehensive Dental Exams

We assess the teeth, gums, existing dental work, bite, soft tissues, and any symptoms or changes you have noticed.

02
Professional maintenance

Dental Cleanings

Professional care removes plaque and hardened tartar from areas that may be difficult or impossible to clean completely at home.

03
Diagnostic information

Dental Imaging

When clinically appropriate, imaging helps evaluate areas between teeth, tooth roots, supporting bone, infections, and conditions not visible during a visual examination.

04
Gum health

Periodontal Screening

Gum measurements, bleeding, recession, inflammation, and bone support help determine whether routine care or periodontal treatment is appropriate.

05
Soft-tissue assessment

Oral Cancer Screening

Routine examinations include observation of the lips, cheeks, tongue, palate, throat area, and other oral tissues for changes that may require further evaluation.

06
Personalized guidance

Home-Care Recommendations

Our team can recommend brushing, interdental cleaning, fluoride, sensitivity products, dry-mouth support, or other care based on your individual needs.

03
Dental Maintenance

Your visit schedule should reflect your actual level of risk.

Some patients remain healthy with a standard recall schedule. Others benefit from more frequent care because of gum disease, recurring decay, dry mouth, diabetes, extensive dental work, tobacco use, or another risk factor.

01 Current gum and bone health
02 History of cavities or failing restorations
03 Brushing and interdental cleaning effectiveness
04 Dry mouth, medications, and medical conditions
05 Crowns, bridges, implants, or dentures
06 Clenching, grinding, diet, and tobacco exposure
04

When to Schedule an Evaluation

Dental symptoms are easier to understand after the cause is identified.

Contact Country Club Dentistry when something feels different, even when the concern seems minor. Dental problems do not always cause significant pain in their early stages.

Schedule an Evaluation
01 Tooth pain or sensitivity
02 Bleeding, swollen, or tender gums
03 A chipped, cracked, or loose tooth
04 A filling, crown, or bridge that feels different
05 Persistent bad breath or an unpleasant taste
06 Jaw soreness, grinding, or morning headaches
07 A sore, lump, or oral change that does not resolve
08 Swelling, fever, drainage, or signs of infection
06
Oral Health Is Part of Overall Health

Your mouth does not exist separately from the rest of your body.

Medical conditions, medications, hormonal changes, immune health, tobacco use, nutrition, and dry mouth can all influence the health of the teeth and gums.

Diabetes, for example, is associated with a higher risk of gum disease, while active gum inflammation may be more difficult to manage when blood glucose is not well controlled.

Dental care supports oral health and quality of life, but it does not replace care from your physician or guarantee prevention of medical disease. We encourage patients to keep both their dental and medical teams informed about relevant health changes.

07
Your General Dentistry Visit

Clear information before treatment begins.

The details of your visit depend on whether you are attending for routine maintenance, a specific symptom, a dental emergency, or a second opinion.

Dr. Strober and the clinical team assess the areas relevant to your visit and gather appropriate diagnostic information.

03
Explanation

Review the findings together

We explain what was identified, what may be causing the concern, and whether monitoring or treatment is appropriate.

04
Options

Compare the available approaches

When more than one option exists, benefits, limitations, alternatives, timing, maintenance, and relevant risks are reviewed.

05
Planning

Create an appropriate sequence

Urgent needs, disease control, restorative care, and elective treatment are arranged according to priority and your goals.

08
Technology With a Purpose

Modern tools should make care clearer and more precise.

Technology is selected according to the procedure and clinical need, not simply because it is available.

Digital restorative dentistry

CEREC

Digital scanning, design, and in-office ceramic fabrication may allow selected crowns, inlays, or onlays to be completed in one appointment.

02
Laser-assisted care

Waterlase Express

A combination of laser energy and water spray may be used for selected hard- and soft-tissue procedures.

03
Digital information

General Dentistry FAQs

Helpful answers before your visit.

Recommendations vary according to your oral health, symptoms, dental history, medical conditions, and risk factors.

01 What does general dentistry include?

General dentistry includes preventive examinations and cleanings, diagnostic care, fillings, gum evaluation and treatment, crowns, bridges, root canal therapy, custom appliances, and treatment for many common dental concerns.

02 How often should I visit the dentist?

Visit frequency should be individualized. Gum health, cavity risk, dry mouth, medical conditions, tobacco use, home care, and existing dental work can affect how often professional care is recommended.

03 Why do I need professional cleanings if I brush at home?

Brushing and cleaning between the teeth are essential, but hardened tartar cannot be fully removed with normal home-care tools. Professional care also allows the gums and teeth to be evaluated for changes.

04 What are the signs of gum disease?

Possible signs include bleeding, redness, swelling, tenderness, gum recession, persistent bad breath, loose teeth, or changes in the way the teeth fit together. Gum disease can also progress without obvious discomfort.

05 Can a cavity be treated with a tooth-colored filling?

Many small or moderate areas of decay can be restored with tooth-colored composite. A larger or more structurally compromised tooth may require an inlay, onlay, crown, root canal, or another treatment.

06 Does Country Club Dentistry provide same-day crowns?

CEREC technology may allow qualifying ceramic crowns, inlays, or onlays to be designed and completed in one appointment. Some situations require a different material, treatment sequence, or laboratory-made restoration.

07 When is root canal treatment needed?

Root canal treatment may be recommended when the tissue inside a tooth becomes irreversibly inflamed, infected, or damaged. An examination and imaging help determine whether the tooth can be treated predictably.

08 Can a nightguard help with grinding or clenching?

A custom nightguard may help protect teeth and restorations from damage related to grinding or clenching. It does not eliminate every cause of jaw pain, so an evaluation is important.

09 What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

Call Country Club Dentistry as soon as possible. Established patients may receive after-hours instructions through the main telephone line. Severe facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing, or another life-threatening emergency requires immediate medical assistance.

10 Is oral health connected to overall health?

Oral health is part of overall health, and medical conditions, medications, tobacco use, nutrition, and immune health can affect the mouth. Dental treatment supports oral health but does not replace medical care or guarantee prevention of systemic disease.

11 Is Country Club Dentistry accepting new patients?

New patients may request an appointment through the online scheduling link or call the office at (760) 832-7915 for assistance.
